The 14 steps it takes to open my office door with a new phone

I recently got a new phone after my last phone was kinda destroyed…and realized to get into my office I would need to download an app to get in. There’s no physical keys given out, so I gotta do a few things.

Simple enough but first I’d have to…

  1. Download the app
  2. Sign in to the app, the app only has magic links, no password, so gotta go to a browser and sign into my email
  3. My email requires a username and password that I don’t actually know, it’s stored in a password manager that syncs between devices
  4. Download password manager
  5. Open up another device to sync the passwords
  6. Log into email, but before that , the email needs a two-factor authentication with an OTP generated in google authenticator
  7. Download authenticator and get the new OTP
  8. Finally log in to my email, find the email, now the door can be unlocked
  9. Unlock the door…

But wait…it’s a new phone, and there’s no wifi near the building, so I also need to:

  1. Log into my cellphone provider, again, needs an OTP, but this time to my email, fortunately I already have logged into that
  2. Get OTP from email, actually login
  3. Swap my cell number to a new device, (un)fortunately I did not set up device protection, so I actually could transfer the phone number really easily, just a click of a button, nothing else
  4. Activate the device and wait for cell reception
  5. …actually unlock the door

It’s honestly funny that I had to do all those steps to unlock the front door, if only they just gave me a physical key, I would've been at work on time!

Its good I didn't need to urgently open it :))
